BABSON PARK, FLA. - The Gyrenes and Warriors finished their series with another double header on Saturday March 28th. The first game is set went to the Warriors, as they outscored the Gyrenes 5-2. The second game also went to Webber, with a final score of 18-8.
The first score of the game went to Webber, in the bottom of the third frame. Mike Cuello kept his bat alive from Friday's double header, as he hit another home run for the Warriors. Cuello's long ball scored two runs, giving Webber an early 2-0 lead.
After a quick three outs for the Gyrenes, Webber added another two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Increasing the Warriors lead to 4-0. In the bottom of the sixth, Webber recorded two hits and found a way to score another run.
With the 5-0 Warrior lead, the Gyrenes were able to score their first run in the top of the eighth inning. Joe Manesiotis reached first on an error, while Ri'Shon Pearl scored. Ave Maria managed to score another run later in the frame. Karson Green singled and batted in Omari Swinton. This was the final score of the game. The Gyrenes were unable to rally in the final inning, giving Webber the 5-2 win.
Two Gyrenes were able to record multiple hits. Anthony Fernandez and Jake Lavine both had two hits.
On the mound, Caleb West pitched for five innings logging two strikeouts. Christian Prull pitched for three innings and recorded a season high of three strikeouts.
In the second game, Webber struck the board first scoring two runs in their first at bat.
With the score 2-0, the Gyrenes were able to score a run in the top of the second. Joe Manesiotis singled and batted in Jake Lavine. The Gyrenes were able to cut into the Webber lead, and the inning ended with a 2-1 score.
In the top of the third, the Gyrenes managed to score another run. Fernandez singled up the middle and batted in Kelton Klemcke. The run scored for Ave Maria tied the game 2-2.
The Gyrenes were able to score their third consecutive run in their next trip to the plate. Michael Kelly singled up the middle and batted in Patrick Corley. The Gyrenes took the lead for the first time in the series, with the score of 3-2.
The Warriors responded quickly, scoring four runs, regaining the lead at with the score of 6-3. In the bottom of the fifth Webber scored 10 runs on nine hits.
In the top of the sixth, Manesiotis added another run for the Gyrenes. Magdic cracked a single up the middle that scored Karson Green and Klemcke. Pearl was able to hit a double and bat in Fernandez. Despite the batting efforts, Webber remained in the lead 16-7. The Warriors immediately responded and added two runs of their own, increasing their lead 18-7. The Gyrenes added another run in their final at bat. Unable to rally, the game ended with at 18-8 favoring Webber.
From the plate Michael Kelly, Fernandez, and Manesiotis all recorded multiple hits.
From the mound, Jack Mcgynn pitched for three innings, recording three strikeouts. Benjamin Hyland pitched for one inning and recorded a season high two strikeouts.
With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 9-14 overall and 6-10 in the conference.
The Gyrenes are back in action on Thursday, April 9th as the travel to #8 Southeastern. The first game of series starts at 6 p.m. and will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network.
