BRUNSWICK, GA. - The Ave Maria Softball finished their series against Coastal Georgia on Saturday, March 28th. Coastal Georgia was able to get the third win of the series with an 11-3 score over Ave Maria.
The Mariners were able to continue the momentum from Friday. Coastal Georgia recorded six hits and scored nine runs in the bottom of the first frame. The batting effort from the Mariners gave an immediate 9-0 lead for Coastal Georgia.
Ave Maria scored for the first time in the third inning. Haleigh Campbell doubled while Mia Mazzolini found her way home, although the Mariners maintained a 9-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Gyrenes added two more runs, starting when Hailee Howe singled and batted in Ashley Lykins. The second run came from a Karsyn Moore ground out, that gave Mary McIntire enough time to score. The Gyrenes were able to cut the deficit to 9-3.
To close out the game, Coastal Georgia added two more runs. The game ended in the bottom of the sixth with a 11-3 final score.
At the plate, Howe recorded a season high of three hits. Lykins, McIntire, Campbell, and Kaedyn Sutton also recorded hits. In the circle, Sutton pitched for four innings and Lindsey Watson pitched for one inning.
The Ave Maria Softball team is set to host Webber on Tuesday, March 31st. The Warriors and Gyrenes will play a double header with the first game starting at 2 p.m. Both games will be streamed on the Urban Edge Network.
