Softball Falls in Finale to Warriors

AVE MARIA, Fla. — The Ave Maria Softball team fell in the series finale to the Webber Warriors 2-0 Wednesday afternoon. The Gyrenes compiled seven hits in the game but could not bring any of them home.

Kaedyn Sutton started the game for the Gyrenes and tossed her second complete game of the series and third of the year. Across the seven innings, she allowed two runs off eight hits and struck out one batter. Webber scored their first run in the third and the second run in the fifth.

At the plate, the Gyrenes got multiple runners aboard a few times throughout the game but could not bring any of the runners home. The bottom of the fifth was the best opportunity for Ave Maria with two in scoring position after a double from Ashley Lykins. Unfortunately, a strikeout ended the frame before AMU could change the score.

In the seventh, Ave Maria put a runner on third with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game in favor of Webber.

Genevieve Peterson and Alexia Bracero led the team at the plate with two hits each.

With the loss, Ave Maria falls to 5-22 overall and 1-14 in Sun Conference play.

The Gyrenes are back in action April 10-11 as they travel up to Lake Wales to take on the Warner Royals. At 4-11 in conference play, the Royals are in sixth place in the Sun Conference standings and would be the last to get into the Sun Conference Tournament. This series is huge in keeping Ave Maria in the race for making the postseason.

The series kicks off Friday, April 10, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Urban Edge Network.
