Travis Johnson

Travis Johnson is in his third season at Ave Maria as the program's wide receivers coach.

During the 2019 season, the Gyrenes threw for nearly 200 yards per game. Johnson's receiving corps saw six players log at least a dozen catches, led by Kevon O'Connor, whose totals in catches, yards, and touchdowns all ranked among the top three in AMU history.

In 2018, his receiving corps allowed AMU to have the second-best passer efficiency in divisional play. Johnson was critical in the quick development of the freshmen on the team as two freshmen led the team in receiving.

Johnson joined the Ave Maria staff after an 11-year career as a successful Florida high school coach. During his 11 seasons as a coach, his high school programs won four district championships. His most successful stint was as the offensive coordinator for Miami Carol City High School, during which time they won the FHSAA 6A state championship.

In addition to his coaching, Johnson also served as a marketing and training specialist for three years for the Nike Sparq Summer Football Tour. A former football and track athlete for the University of Central Florida, Johnson had a successful 14-year career with Bally Total Fitness. In addition to coaching the wide receivers, he will assist with the strength and conditioning program.
