Herb Smith serves as the swing coach for Ave Maria's men's and women's golf programs. Smith has served as the program's swing coach since the early days of the program's history.
Smith has been a professional golfer since 2000, and has been a golf instructor for more than 20 years. During his time as a pro, he has qualified for several tour events, and has twice qualified for the finals of tour school. He has also earned more than 20 victories at mini-tour events.
During his collegiate days, Smith was a standout golfer at Florida A&M University, who inducted him into their Athletics Hall of Fame in 2002. He was the first golfer inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame at FAMU. While there, he was a four-time conference champion, and added a fifth conference title as a coach.Â
Herb Smith lives in Ave Maria, Florida. Away from the golf course, he obtained the rank of sergeant in the armed forces, and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery during the Vietnam War.
