Phillip Gay

Phillip Gay is in his second season as the head coach of Ave Maria's varsity rugby program. Gay is the founding head coach of the program, taking on the role of head coach prior to the 2024 season.

Gay served as the president of what was then Ave Maria's rugby club for two years and served as a team captain during his time with the Gyrenes. He also returned to the University during the 2021-2022 school year as the coach for the club program.

Gay played rugby throughout his high school and college career days, beginning play at the age of 12 and playing high school rugby at Gregory the Great Academy. During his playing days at the University, Gay played the positions of inside center, flanker, and eight-man.

Following his graduation from Ave Maria, Gay earned his master's degree from Hillsdale College, and is currently pursuing his law degree from Ave Maria School of Law.
