Tim Speakman

Tim Speakman enters his sixth year at the helm of the Ave Maria softball program. During his first five seasons Speakman has guided the Lady Gyrenes to an increased number of wins in each season (11, 16, 22, 26, 30).

The 2015 season saw Speakman eclipse the 100th collegiate win of his career while collecting nine wins over nationally ranked opponents. He also guided the Blue and Green to a runner-up finish at the Sun Conference Tournament. 

In 2014 he led the Lady Gyrenes to their most successful season to date; including the first 30-win season in the history of the program and their first wins over nationally ranked opponents. In 2013 he led the Green and Blue to a national runner-up finish at the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) Small College World Series.


During his time at AMU he has coached one NAIA All-American, two NFCA NAIA All-Americans, nine All-Conference selections, eight USCAA All-Americans, and seven USCAA Academic All-Americans.

Speakman's program has also had much success in the classroom; posting a combined GPA of 3.30 and named an NAIA Scholar Team in 2013-14 and 2014-15 in addition to a 100-percent graduation rate since the program's inception.

Speakman has been coaching at the high school and collegiate levels for 25 years. Speakman came to AMU with eight years of softball head coaching experience. From 1994-1998, he served as the head softball coach at Port Charlotte High School, and from 2000-2003 he was the head coach at Naples Gulf Coast High School. He spent two years as an assistant softball coach at Gulf Coast from 1998-1999.

In 2003, Speakman brought his impressive coaching resume to Appalachian State University where he was an assistant football coach from 2003-2005. In the spring of 2005, he returned to Naples to accept the football head coaching position at Palmetto Ridge High School. He served as the head football coach at Palmetto Ridge from June of 2005 to 2009. During 2008 and 2009, Speakman helped the Palmetto Ridge softball team as an assistant coach.

A native of Minerva, Ohio-Speakman recieved his Bachelor of Science in Education from Kent State University. Coach Speakman is married to his wife Jennifer and they have two children; Taylor Marie, 10 and Tyler James, 7.
