Shawn Chervets was hired in August of 2026 and is in his first season as the Goalkeeper Coach for Ave Maria Women's Soccer.
A native of Lake Zurich, Illinois, Chervets developed as a goalkeeper at Lake Zurich High School and with Sockers FC Chicago. At the club level, he competed for both the Sockers FC National Premier League and Academy teams. He appeared at the national tournament in consecutive seasons and helped his team finish as the national runner-up in 2014.
Also in 2014, Chervets was selected to the Illinois Olympic Development Program State Team and served as the team’s starting goalkeeper.
Chervets graduated from Lake Zurich High School in 2016. During his high school career, he earned Rookie of the Year honors and was named All-Conference and All-Area following his senior season.
Chervets began his collegiate career at Benedictine University in 2016. As a freshman, he made two appearances in goal, including one start, and recorded four saves over 95 minutes of action. He also helped Benedictine secure the first conference championship in program history and advance to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
In 2017, Chervets appeared in four matches and made two starts for the Eagles. He recorded 12 saves and finished the season with an .857 save percentage.
Chervets took over the starting goalkeeper position in 2018, starting all 18 matches during his junior season. He helped Benedictine finish with a 10-7 record while recording 66 saves and a 1.42 goals-against average. His performance earned him Honorable Mention All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference recognition.
