Football Takes On Abilene Christian Saturday

The Ave Maria football team will make the trip to Abilene, Texas this weekend to take on NCAA DI-FCS Abilene Christian on Saturday. The game is set to kick off at 3 p.m. ET.

The Gyrenes are coming off their first win of the season, a 16-12 victory over Concordia College (Ala.).  In the win, Dustin Roberts and Kaleb Coffee each scored rushing touchdowns and finished with 104 and 42 rushing yards, respectively.
 
Nick Dorgan led the AMU defense with two solo and 10 assist tackles. He also had 1.5 tackles for a loss and one sack. Joe Prichard had three solo and eight assist tackles for the Gyrenes.
 
On the season, the Gyrenes are averaging 14.2 points a game and allowing over 31 points per contest. Against NCAA teams this season, Ave Maria has been outscored 129-48.
 
Abilene Christian has averaged 23.8 points per game and has allowed 23.0 points per contest. As a team, the Wildcats average 472 yards per game, 166.5 of which comes on the ground.
 
Herschel Sims leads the rushing attack for ACU with 409 total yards and three touchdowns. Six different players have scored rushing touchdowns for Abilene Christian on the season.
 
Parker McKenzie has completed 67.2 percent of his passes as quarterback for the Wildcats. On the season, he has passed for 1,750 yards and 16 touchdowns with four interceptions.
 
His go-to receiver has been Demarcus Thomason who has 33 receptions for for 377 yards. In the red zone, McKenzie has found Cedric Gilbert (7) and Cade Stone (4) most often as the two have combined for 11 receiving touchdowns.
