Lady Gyrenes Fall to #5 Ranked Eagles

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.— The Embry-Riddle Eagles pulled away from the Ave Maria Lady Gyrenes late in the match Thursday night to walk away with a 6-0 victory. AMU next hits the pitch on Saturday afternoon versus Thomas University.

Defense was the story early as both teams kept each other off the scoreboard for the first 33 minutes of play. The host Eagles were finally able to break the scoreless tie, chipping in two goals before the first half came to a close.

ERAU held their 2-0 lead for most of the second half, as the offense of the Lady Gyrenes was never able to get off the ground.  Embry-Riddle, would tack on four insurance goals, all after the 70th minute of play to stretch their lead to six and put the game out of reach.

Sophomore goalkeeper Francesca Singleton made six saves in net for the Blue and Green, giving her 36 on the season. With the loss, AMU drops its record to 3-4 and 0-3 in the Sun Conference.

The Lady Gyrenes will next travel to Thomasville, Ga., to take on the Thomas University Nighthawks this coming Saturday.  The Nighthawks are currently in second place in the TSC North Division. Kickoff between Thomas and Ave Maria is set for 4 p.m. at the Thomas University Soccer Complex.
