Football Hosts Concordia (Ala.) Saturday

The Ave Maria University football team will host Concordia College – Alabama on Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. at the AMU Football Field.

Admission to the game will be $5 for adults and $2 for students. AMU students and staff will be admitted free of charge with their AMU ID. There will be a premium parking/tailgating lot in the grass area to the east of Tom Golisano Field House, it will be $5 to park in this lot.
 
The Gyrenes, 0-4, come into the matchup looking for their first win of the season after dropping a 17-7 decision to Warner last weekend.
 
Against Warner, the Blue and Green struggled to get things going on the offensive side of the ball, finishing with 281 yards of total offense. Of that yardage, 142 came on the ground while 139 was through the air.
 
Kaleb Coffee got the start at running back and finished with 115 yards on 31 carries. Travis Makauskas led the Gyrenes in receiving with four receptions for 43 yards and a touchdown. 
 
The Gyrenes will lean on their defense against Concordia. The Gyrene defense held Warner to 268 yards of total offense and to 10 points, as one of the Royals touchdowns came on a blocked field goal that Warner returned for a touchdown.
 
Concordia College enters the weekend with an overall record of 1-3, having defeated Point University 27-14 and having lost to Arkansas Pine Bluff, Southeastern, and West Alabama.
 
The Hornets average 234 yards of offense a game and 12.5 points per game. Of their five touchdowns on the season, one has come through the air while four have come via a rushing touchdown.
 
Matthew Rowser leads the Hornets ground game, rushing for 134 yards on 41 carries so far this season. Aaron Pierce will get the call on the goal line as he has picked up two of Concordia's four rushing touchdowns.
 
Andre' Miller will start at quarterback for the Hornets. Miller has completed 14-of-40 pass attempts this season for 237 yards with three interceptions. His favorite target through four games has been Deon Johnson who leads the team with nine receptions and 153 total receiving yards.
