JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The Ave Maria football team took care of business on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Edward Waters College 30-7. The Gyrenes jumped out to a 23-7 lead in the first half and never looked back.

Clayton Uecker led the Gyrenes' air attack, throwing for 144 yards and two touchdowns on 13-of-28 passing. He threw one interception. Travis Makauskas had five receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Dustin Roberts ran the ball 31 times for 127 yards. Daviel Clarke ran for 115 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries for the Blue and Green.

The Gyrenes struck first when Devin Cramer caught a three-yard pass from Uecker for a touchdown to cap a 72-yard, 15-play drive. AMU increased its lead to 10-0 a few minutes later when Brandon Leon converted a 22-yard field goal.

Edward Waters had a 47-yard touchdown run late in the opening quarter to make the score 10-7.

Sandwiched in between two Leon second quarter field goals, a 42-yarder and a 27-yard field goal, Makauskas caught a touchdown pass from Uecker. The touchdown was Makauskas' sixth receiving touchdown of the season.

After a scoreless third quarter, Daviel Clarke added a five-yard touchdown run for the Blue and Green to make the score 30-7.

Frank Kelly, Kurt Joseph, and Charles Williams each had six total tackles. Willaims also had 1.5 sacks to lead the AMU defense.

The Gyrenes return home on Nov. 8 for the first of two consecutive home games to close out the 2014 season. First AMU hosts Point (Ga.) in a TSC match-up before welcoming Apprentice School to Ave Maria.
