AVE MARIA, Fla. --- Four Gyrenes scored in double-figures led by Exor Torres' 19 points and Jelani Bonner's double-double (16 pts., 13 reb.) to send the Ave Maria men's basketball team (6-4) past Coastal Georgia (3-9), 71-49, on Sunday afternoon. The Gyrenes return to the court on Thursday when they welcome Trinity Baptist to Tom Golisano Field House for a 7 p.m. start.

Torres finished 5-of-7 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe en route to his 19 points. Bonner recorded his second double-double of the season, finishing with 16 points and 13 rebounds in 39 minutes.

Nate Krimsky had a breakout game for the Blue and Green, recording a season-best in rebounds (10), points (8), and assists (5). Brandon Pasker tallied 11 points to go along with six boards. Brandon Dean also scored in double-figures with 10 points.

The Gyrenes came out firing, jumping out to a 12-3 lead 6:24 into the game. AMU maintained that lead for much of the opening half before a late run by the Mariners brought the score to 24-23 in favor of the Gyrenes at the break.

The game remained close in the opening minutes of the second half, as Coastal Georgia continued to hang within a five to eight points of the Gyrenes. Leading 51-46 with 6:46 to play, the Blue and Green went on a 20-3 run to close the game and finish with a 71-49 victory.

This was the fourth time this season that AMU has held a team to under 50 points. The Gyrene defense held the Mariners to 35.8 percent shooting from the floor and forced 14 turnovers.

AMU shot 51.1 percent (23-of-45) from the floor on the afternoon and 87.5 percent (21-of-24) from the free throw line. The Gyrenes dominated the boards 39-15 and outscored Coastal Georgia 36-16 in the paint.
