Lady Gyrenes Fall At Webber

BABSON PARK, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team fell to Sun Conference rival Webber International University, 65-46, on Tuesday evening. 

Madison McDonald led AMU with 19 points and recorded three steals in the loss. Taylor Lindsey added seven points and a team-high four steals for the Lady Gyrenes.

AMU was able to keep with Webber early on in the game as there were six lead changes in the first half. The Warriors kept the Lady Gyrenes from scoring for over five minutes, and went on a 10-1 scoring run to head into half time with a 12 point lead.

The Blue and Green struggled coming out of the locker room; shooting only 21.7 percent from the field in the second half and made just 1-of-11 from beyond the arc. WIU shot 52.4 percent from the floor and made 2-of-7 from three-point range in the second half.

The Warriors were able to capitalize off of the Lady Gyrenes 25 turnovers scoring 24 points in transition. They also dominated the boards 47-37 and outscored the Lady Gyrenes 17-8 in second chance points. Deslyn Applewaite led the way for the Warriors with 22 points and added nine rebounds.

With the loss, the Lady Gyrenes fall to 4-4 on the season. The Blue and Green will return to the court tomorrow at the Tom Golisano Fieldhouse when they take on NCAA Division II Palm Beach Atlantic in an exhibition matchup beginning at 7p.m.
