Lady Gyrenes Come Up Short Against Palm Beach Atlantic

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team fell to NCAA Division II Palm Beach Atlantic, 62-55, in an exhibition game on Wednesday evening at the Tom Golisano FH.

Madison McDonald led AMU with 16 points and recorded three steals in the loss. Taylor Lindsey, in her first career start, added 14 points, four assists, and three steals while Annie Artise chipped in with 14 points of her own.

The first half was full of runs; as there were four lead changes. Early in the first half, the Blue and Green went on a 6-0 run. Sailfish battled their way back and led by three with just over four minutes left in the half before Artise responded with a three to swing the momentum in the Lady Gyrenes favor. Lindsey hit another field goal from behind the arc to put AMU up by seven heading into the half.  Yvanessa Vincent got on the boards often with eight first-half rebounds.

Midway through the second half the score was tied at 37. The Sailfish started to break away from the Gyrenes as time wound down. With 6:35 left to play PBA was able to push their lead to 10 on a bucket by Nikkira Brown. The second half was a battle to the end, as AMU had two starters foul out.

PBA shot 43.2 percent from the floor and made 7-of-11 from three point range for the game. AMU shot 35.2 percent from the floor and made 5-of-18 from behind the arc. Ayanna Holmes led the way for the Sailfish with 14 points and six rebounds.

The Blue and Green will return to the court Friday evening at the Tom Golisano Fieldhouse when they take on Trinity Baptist College at 6p.m. The team will also play the Tigers on Saturday afternoon with a tip-off slated for 1p.m.
