AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team defeated Trinity Baptist College, 78-32 in a non-conference game on Friday night. The Gyrenes are 5-4 on the season, 0-1 in the Sun Conference. The Blue and Green will return to the court tomorrow evening at Tom Golisano field house when they will play Trinity Baptist at 1 p.m.
Madison McDonald led AMU with 13 points, four assists and two steals. Lauren Gillingham scored a career high 13 points, and had seven rebounds in the win. Annie Artise chipped in 13 points.Â
It was all Blue and Green in the first half as they got off to a huge lead early in the first half. AMU scored the first 21 points of the game, before Trinity Baptist chipped in a free throw with 9:38 in the half. By dominating the boards 33-15, the Lady Gyrenes were able to force the Eagles to 14 first half turnovers.
The lopsided first half score of 43-9 proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome. 16 players saw minutes for the Lady Gyrenes. 12 players scored in this lop-sided victory, and the bench contributed 40 points.
Julianna Calice led the way for the Eagles; scoring eight points and adding four rebounds. Trinity Baptist College shot just 20 percent from the floor. AMU shot 43.8 percent from the floor and made 10-of-31 from behind the arc.
