WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team jumped out to a two set to none lead against Northwood but weren't able to hold off the Lady Seahawks, falling in five sets. The Lady Gyrenes went 1-1 on the day after defeating Edward Waters in three sets earlier in the day.
 
Three Lady Gyrenes recorded double digit kills led by Lexy Smith (Manassas, Va.) with 14 and Lexie Andric (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Hannah Wurster (Conestoga, Pa.) with 12 each. Jessica Schein (Greenfield, Wisc.) posted 43 assists in the five-setter.
 
AMU won seven of 10 points midway through the opening set to turn an 11-11 tie into a 18-14 lead for the Blue and Green. The Lady Gyrenes would hold on to win the first set 25-21.
 
After the Blue and Green jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second set, Northwood went on a run of their own to pull within one, 11-10. The Lady Gyrenes responded by winning six of the next seven points en route to a 25-18 second set win.
 
Northwood took the third and fourth sets by identical 25-15 scores to pull the match even at two games apiece.
 
In the fifth set, the teams went back-and-forth with AMU taking an 8-7 lead midway through the set. Northwood, however, would win the next three points to take the lead and would eventually take the set 15-10.
 
The Lady Gyrenes return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Temple Terrace, Fla. to take on Florida College. The opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
