AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Lady Gyrenes netted an early goal and received solid defensive play throughout the evening to walk away with a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats of Johnson and Wales University. AMU posted its first shutout of the 2014 season, to improve its record to 3-1.
Sophomore forward
Anne Bateman (Waymart, Pa.) was able to beat the Johnson and Wales defense in the 18
th minute of play to give the Lady Gyrenes the 1-0 advantage. Bateman's unassisted goal was her third of the season.
The Blue and Green offense continued to supply pressure throughout the evening, outshooting Johnson and Wales 11 to 8.
AMU Goalkeeper
Francesca Singleton (Manchester, United Kingdom)n made four saves in net for the Lady Gyrenes to protect the one goal lead.
The Lady Gyrenes next play on Saturday, September 20 when they take on Johnson University. Kickoff for this match is set for 4 p.m. at AMU Soccer Field. This will be the Blue and Greens final tune-up match before TSC play begins.Â
