AVE MARIA, Fla.— The Warner University Royals used two second half goals to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Ave Maria 2-1 in TSC action on Thursday evening. With the loss, the Blue and Green drop their record to 3-2 and 0-1 in the Sun Conference.

The Lady Gyrenes were able to get on the scoreboard first when Anne Bateman (Waymart, Pa.) fed Katie Trudeau (Midlothian, Va.) for her first goal of the season. AMU was able to hold the one nothing advantage through the first half, taking the lead into halftime.

Two minutes into the second half, the Warner offense was finally able to breakthrough, notching their first goal and tying the game at one.

Defense reigned through much of the second half, with both defenses denying the others offenses of several scoring opportunities. With just over five minutes left to play, the Royals were able to beat the Lady Gyrenes defense and score the game winning goal.

Francesca Singleton (Manchester, United Kingdom) made 11 saves in net for the Blue and Green.

The Lady Gyrenes will return to action on Saturday, September 27, when they welcome Webber International University to Ave Maria. This will be the first matchup between the two teams since 2012. Kickoff for this Sun Conference battle is set for 4 p.m.
