AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria University volleyball team cruised to a three set victory over the visiting Trinity College (Fla.) Tigers on Thursday night, 25-20, 25-12, 25-12. The Blue and Green will return to the court on Saturday when they travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. to take on Florida Memorial.
 
Lexy Smith led AMU with 10 kills and five block assists while Ashley St. Hubin recorded eight kills and Hannah Wurster and Bre Holder each tallied seven kills. Jessica Schein led the Blue and Green with 34 assists and Mary Eckard finished with a team-best 11 digs.
 
AMU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set before Trinity College battled back to tie the game at 14-all. The Blue and Green then scored six of the next seven points to take a 20-15 edge. After another rally by the Tigers, Wurster had back-to-back kills followed by an Ashley St. Hubin kill to give the Lady Gyrenes a set point. A Bre Holder service ace gave the Gyrenes the first set 25-20.
 
The second and third sets were all AMU. The Blue and Green opened the second set on a 13-3 run and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 25-12 set win. In the third set, AMU used a six-point run to break the set open and then closed the match on a 7-1 run to win the set 25-12.
 
The Blue and Green return to action on Saturday when they take on Florida Memorial in a conference matchup. The 2 p.m. contest will be played in Miami Gardens.
