DAVIE, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team won its second consecutive contest on Saturday afternoon, defeating Florida Memorial in three sets in Davie, Fla. The Lady Gyrenes won 25-19, 25-17, 25-20 to improve to 3-10 overall and 1-5 in TSC play.
Lexy Smith led the Blue and Green with 10 kills while Ashley St. Hubin tallied seven kills. Mary Eckard recorded 16 digs and Jessica Schein had 13 assists.
AMU jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first set only to see Florida Memorial battle back to tie the set at 13-all. Still tied at 17-17, AMU rallied off the next four points to take a 21-17 lead. The Blue and Green went on to win the set 25-19.
The second set was more competitive at the start before the Gyrenes won seven of eight points to take a 13-6 advantage. AMU maintained a seven to eight point lead for the remainder of the set en route to a 25-17 win.
The Gyrenes help a slight advantage in the third set before they won seven of nine points to increase a 15-10 lead into a 21-12 edge. The Blue and Green had to withstand a late rally but Florida Memorial but were able to hold on to the set 25-10.
AMU returns home on Tuesday night to take on Warner at 7 p.m.
