Lady Gyrenes Fall to Southeastern

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team was defeated by conference foe Southeastern 52-70. The Gyrenes drop to 9-7 on the season, 1-4 in the Sun Conference.

The Blue and Green will return to the court on Saturday, January 17 where they will play conference opponent Florida Memorial.
Annie Artise scored 12 points on the evening; bringing her career point total to 1,001 points. Artise also had 11 rebounds. Yvanessa Vincent continues to be big on the boards; grabbing eight total rebounds.

AMU started the game strong; trailing only in the first minute of action. With 12 minutes left to go in the half, the Lady Gyrenes were up by seven, with the help of two free throws by Madison McDonald. The Fire kept it close and did not trail by more than five for the remainder of the half. The Gyrenes went into the locker room with a four point lead.
The second half saw four early lead changes before the Fire took the lead with 13:30 left in the half; and never looks back. The Lady Gyrenes struggled, shooting just 22% from the floor in the second half. They were unable to score a field goal as Southeastern went on an 18-1 run in a seven minute swing. The Fire shot 51% in the second half.

The Fire dominated the paint scoring 26 points, to the Lady Gyrenes 12. AMU was also outrebounded 41-29.

Alyssa Ramos had a double double for Southeastern scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
