AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria football team had their three game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon by the visiting North Greenville Crusaders, 49-13. The Blue and Green fall to 3-3 on the season as they prepare to resume conference play next week at Southeastern.

North Greenville got on the board first, going 74-yards on five plays on their opening drive for a touchdown. Ave Maria tied it up late in the first half on a 20-yard pass from Matthew Kreichman to Thomas Zimmer for a touchdown. On the ensuing kick-off, North Greenville returned it 78-yards for a touchdown to lead 14-7 after one quarter of play.

The Crusaders scored three times in the second quarter to take a 35-7 lead into halftime.

After North Greenville added a touchdown to make it 42-7 after three, Austin Hunt scored his first career touchdown on a 5-yard run with 12:24 to play in regulation. North Greenville added a score late in the game to make it 49-13.

North Greenville had 429 yards of total offense compared to 263 by the Gyrenes.

Kreichman threw for 81 yards and a touchdown on 11 of 18 passing. He also ran the ball seven times for 19 yards. Hunt finished 6-of-12 for 73 yards. He had one rushing touchdown.

Ramsey Bennett led the Gyrene defense with seven total tackles. Reshard Allen, John Preyey, and Marcus Johnson each had six total tackles.

The Gyrenes return to action next Saturday when they take on Southeastern in Lakeland at 7 p.m.
