LAKELAND, Fla. --- The Ave Maria football team was shut out at Southeastern on Saturday night, 66-0. The Fire used big scoring quarters of 31, 21, and 14 to take down the Gyrenes.

The Gyrenes held the high-powered Southeastern offense scoreless after the opening quarter of play before a four-yard touchdown run by Jarrell Reynolds coming off an AMU interception put the Fire on the board with 8:56 to play in the second quarter.

After a three-and-out by the Gyrenes, the Fire went 35-yards on four plays in 1:30 capped by a Reynolds 3-yard TD run. Following a Fire interception of the Gyrenes on the ensuing possession, Reynolds scored his third touchdown of the quarter on a 34-yard jaunt to make it 21-0.

Southeastern got the ball back a few minutes later after an Ave Maria fumble. The Fire took advantage of the Gyrene turnover when Railond Garrett found Michael Wheary for a 46-yard touchdown pass and catch. SEU added a field goal just before the half to make 31-0 at the break.

Reynolds opened the scoring in the second half with a 65-yard touchdown run. A few minutes later, Anthony Williams picked up a Gyrene fumble and returned it 86 yards for a touchdown to make it 45-0.

Southeastern added three more rushing touchdowns, two by Lorine Parker and one by Joseph Banks to make the score 66-0.

Ave Maria finished with 221 yards of total offense. They had 150 passing yards and 71 yards on the ground. Southeastern racked up 564 yards of total offense including 374 yards on the ground and seven rushing touchdowns.

The Gyrenes turned the ball over seven times in the loss, three interceptions and four fumbles lost.

Kaleb Coffee finished with 67 yards rushing on six carries. Xavier Roberts had three receptions for 35 yards. Ayshad Thornton finished with a team-high 10 total tackles.

For Southeastern, Reynolds finished with 186 rushing yards on 15 carries and four touchdowns. Parker added two rushing touchdowns on nine carries for 75 yards. Wheary had four receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown.

The Blue and Green return to action next Saturday when they welcome Webber International on AMU Football Field. The game is scheduled to kick off at 12 p.m.
