AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's soccer team overcame a late rally by Webber that tied the match at three, to defeat the Lady Warriors 4-3. Alexia Mazzoccone had two goals for the Blue and Green including the game winner in the 86th minute.

Ave Maria improves to 6-8 on the season and to 2-6 in Sun Conference action while Webber drops to 3-9 overall and to 3-5 in TSC play. The six wins are the most by an AMU women's soccer team in the programs eight year history. The previous high was five back in 2013.

Mazzoccone got the scoring started for the Lady Gyrenes, finding the back of the net on a free kick from just outside the penalty box 14:23 into the match. Less than four minutes later, Laura Mastandrea turned and send the ball past the Webber keeper to make it 2-0 in favor of the Lady Gyrenes.

With 4:09 to play in the opening half, Webber netted a goal to cut the Lady Gyrene lead to one. The Blue and Green responded with a goal 24 seconds later by Sarah McBride to make it 3-1 Lady Gyrenes.

With AMU leading 3-1 heading in the second half, Webber scored in the 46th minute and 66th minute to tie the match at 3-3.

Mazzoccone broke the 3-3 tie with 4:42 remaining in the match on a shot from a few feet outside the 18-yard box that rocketed over the goalies reach and into the back of the net. The goal was her second of the afternoon and eighth of the season.

The Blue and Green earned the victory despite being outshot 45-10. The Lady Gyrenes defense dug in when they needed to and blocked nine of the Warrior shots before they reached the net. Of the 45 shots, only 16 ended up on goal for Webber. AMU had five shots on goal.

Francesca Singleton earned the win for the Lady Gyrenes, making 13 saves and allowing three goals. She improves to 4-8 on the season.

Ave Maria returns to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Warner to AMU Soccer Field. The game is set to kick off at 4 p.m.
