AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to visiting Florida National on Thursday afternoon. Trailing 1-0 and playing a man-down, AMU scored to tie the match midway through the second period before falling in the opening minutes of overtime.
 
Gabriel Miranda opened the scoring for Florida National when he was able to get behind the defense and flip the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net in the opening minute of the second half. Trailing 1-0 and a man-down, Frabrizio Bucco found the back of the net off a pass from Alejandro Echeverria in the 69th minute to tie the match at 1-1.
 
In overtime, Aday Gonzalez was able to curve a free kick around the AMU wall and into the top right corner of the net for the game winner for Florida National.
 
AMU was outshot 26-4 and had two shots on goal compared to 11 by Florida National.
 
Michael O'Donnell took the loss in the match, making nine saves and allowing two goals. Simon Marin was credited with the win for FNU after making one save and allowing one goal.
 
Prior to the match, AMU honored one of their two seniors, Carl Bishop.
 
The Blue and Green return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Warner to take on the Royals on 1 p.m.
