Lady Gyrenes Falter Versus FMU, 3-1

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team fell in a road match at Florida Memorial in four sets (22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 19-25) on Friday night.

Junior Lexy Smith led the Lady Gyrenes with 10 kills and 3.5 total blocks. Lauren Ruby finished with a team-high 20 assists, while Monique Rivers led AMU with 24 digs.

It was a back-and-forth opening set, with the Lady Gyrenes able to win six straight points and take a 17-14 lead. The Lions battled back to tie the game at 21-all and then went on to take four of the final five points to take the first set 25-22.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the second set the Lady Gyrenes weren't able to get much going. They trailed the rest of the way before dropping the set 25-18.

The third set went back and forth before AMU was able to take seven of the final nine points to win the set 25-23.

The fourth set was all FMU as the Lions stymied any hope for an AMU rally.

With the loss, the Lady Gyrenes fall to 13
-16 on the season and 1-8 in Sun Conference action.

It's a short turnaround for the Lady Gyrenes as they will travel to Miami Gardens again tomorrow to face off against TSC foe St. Thomas. The match is slated to begin at 12p.m.
