MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team dropped a straight set decision at St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon. The Blue and Green fell 25-20, 25-20, 25-10.

Ave Maria moves to 13-17 overall and to 1-9 in Sun Conference play. St. Thomas improves to 22-8 overall and to 9-1 against TSC opponents.

Lexy Smith led AMU with six kills followed by Lexie Andric, Maria Mendez, and Bre Holder with four each. Veronika Garcia had 12 assists, five digs, and a service ace. Hannah Wurster had two total blocks for AMU.

St Thomas was led by Carly Durr who tallied 10 kills. Sydney Maynard and Whitney Battoe each had three service aces for STU. Dana Nowacyk had 31 assists to go along with six digs.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead in the opening set only to see the Lady Gyrenes roll off seven straight points to pull within one, 17-16, late in the game. STU responded with a four point spurt and went on to win the set 25-20.

In the second set, AMU led early before a 10-2 run by the Bobcats turned a 5-3 AMU lead into a 13-3 advantage for STU. Trailing 22-14, AMU won six of the next seven points to pull within three, 23-20. AMU wasn't able to get any closer, dropping the set 25-20.

Tied 3-3 early in the third set, St. Thomas won 10 straight points to take a 13-3 lead on the Lady Gyrenes. After an AMU point, the Bobcats won the next five to take an 18-4 advantage. The Bobcats went on to take the set 25-10 to complete the sweep.

The Lady Gyrenes return to the court on Tuesday when they welcome Southeastern to Tom Golisano Field House. Prior to the game, AMU will recognize the lone senior on the women's volleyball team, Ashley St. Hubin. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
