AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team fell to the visiting Southeastern Fire, 3-0, on Tuesday night in the Lady Gyrenes final home match of the 2015 season. Prior to the match, AMU recognized their lone senior on the team, Ashley St. Hubin.

The Lady Gyrenes conclude the season on Saturday when they travel to West Palm Beach to take on Keiser University. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m.

Lexy Smith led the Blue and Green with 16 kills on the night and two blocks. St. Hubin added a season-high nine kills for the Blue and Green. Lauren Ruby recorded 19 assists to go along with six digs. Monique Rivers tallied a team-high eight digs for AMU.

As a team, AMU was barely edged in hitting percentage by SEU, .267 to .269. Both teams finished with 45 kills and 17 errors. Each team also recorded two aces.

In the opening set, AMU took an early 7-4 lead only to see Southeastern come back to tie the game at 10-all. After the Lady Gyrenes responded and took a 15-12 lead, the Fire came back with a four point run to take a 16-15 advantage. Still tied at 23-23, Southeastern took the final two points to take the first set 25-23.

In set two, Ave Maria and Southeastern exchanged 3-4 point runs in the beginning of the set but it would be SEU that would finish with a 13-12 advantage. AMU was able to pull within one on two more occasions before eventually falling in the set 25-22.

Southeastern jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first set and it appeared as if they were going to run away with the set but Ave was able to chip away at the SEU lead and pulled within two, 13-11, midway through the set. SEU responded by taking six of the next seven points but a five point spurt by the Blue and Green kept AMU close, 19-17. AMU pulled to within one three times late in the set but weren't able to square the match, falling in the set 25-23.
