Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Taylor Hodge

Lady Gyrenes Blank Trinity Baptist, 5-0

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's soccer team defeated Trinity Baptist 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Anna Koerner scored a pair of goals in the win as AMU improves to 4-5 on the season.
 
Koerner got the scoring started for the Lady Gyrenes with a goal 3:50 into the match. Five minutes later, Alexia Mazzoccone found the back of the net on a shot past the keeper from the corner of the box.
 
Koerner and Anne Bateman each added goals to conclude the opening half and give the Blue and Green a 4-0 lead at the break.
 
Caitlin Waites got into the action in the second half, scoring off a pass from Kelsey Moser on a shot that powered through the Trinity Baptist goalkeeper's hands and into the back of the net.
 
Mazzoccone and Laura Mastandrea also had assists on the afternoon.
 
Waites finished with a team-high six shots with three coming on net. Mastandrea and Bateman also had three shots on goal.
 
Cresencia del Pino got her first start in goal for AMU and picked up the win, making one save over 45 minutes in net. Francesca Singleton was in net for the second half and made one save to preserve the shutout.
 
The Lady Gyrenes had 26 shots on the afternoon with 14 coming on goal. Trinity Baptist had 10 shots with 2 on net.
 
The Blue and Green return to action on Thursday afternoon when they host Florida Memorial University. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Prior to the game, Ave Maria will honor its three seniors.
