DELAND, Fla. --- The Ave Maria football team finished their 2015 season at Stetson on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Hatters 60-21. The Gyrenes finish the season with a 4-7 overall record and a 2-3 mark in Sun Conference play.

Stetson jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, getting scores on a 5-yard touchdown run by Cole Mazza and a 30-yard interception return by Eric Martin. The Hatter pushed the lead to 23-0 in the second quarter before Ave got on the board with a 10-yard touchdown pass from Austin Hunt to Nick Mendelsberg. A 16-yard touchdown run by Mazza with 1:40 to play in the half made the score 30-7 in favor of the Hatter heading into the break.

Mazza scored his third touchdown for the Hatters early in the third quarter to push the Hatters lead to 37-7. After another Stetson touchdown, Hunt responded with a 24-yard touchdown run to make the score 42-14. On the next AMU possession, Kaleb Coffee broke through the Stetson defense and went 59-yards for a Ave touchdown. With the Gyrenes trailing 46-21 after three quarters, Stetson scored 17 in the fourth to put away AMU 60-21.

AMU finished with 222 yards of total offense compared to 517 by the Hatters. The Gyrenes turned the ball over three times and forced one Stetson fumble on the afternoon.

Hunt completed nine of his 23 pass attempts for 92 yards and one touchdown. He threw two interceptions. Hunt also ran the ball 15 times for 57 total yards and a touchdown. Kaleb Coffee had four carries for 70 yards and a touchdown. Xavier Roberts had three receptions for 40 yards, both team highs. Ramsey Bennett led AMU with seven solo tackles. Austin Cole had five tackles, including one for a loss, and forced and recovered a fumble.
