Gyrenes Rally Past Trinity Baptist, 64-58

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- Four Gyrenes scored in double figures to help the Ave Maria men's basketball team rally past Trinity Baptist, 64-58, on Thursday night. The Blue and Green return to action on Sunday when they take on Webster University on Sunday at 2 p.m.
 
Martez Harris led the Gyrenes with 17 points and seven rebounds. Julian Adams tallied 14 points while Exor Torres and Brandon Dean each finished with 12 points. Nate Krimsky recorded eight rebounds and five assists, both team-highs.
 
The Gyrenes shot 50 percent for the game and made six from behind the arc while Trinity Baptist was 23-of-61 (37.7 percent) from the field and were just 3-of-16 from three. AMU held a 32-22 advantage in points in the paint for the game.
 
The teams went back-and-forth in the opening minutes of the game with AMU taking a three point edge, 14-11, on a trey by Martez Harris at the 14:26 mark. A 7-0 run by Trinity Baptist put the eagles in front by four a few minutes later. With AMU trailing by one, 22-21, Trinity Baptist closed the half on a 13-6 run to take a 35-27 lead into the half.
 
Trinity Baptist continued to grow its lead in the second half, leading by as many as 13, 49-36, at the 13:08 mark. Still trailing by 10, AMU went on a 16-0 run over five minutes of game time to take a six point lead, 57-51, with 4:41 to play in the game. Down the stretch, Ave Maria made 5-of-6 from the free throw line to cap the come-from-behind win.
 
The Blue and Green were able to hold TBC to 23 points in the second half by playing shut down defense and holding the Eagles to 28 percent shooting.
 
Brandon Washington finished with a game-high 20 points for TBC while Ernest Johnson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.
