AVE MARIA, FLA. – The Ave Maria baseball team is set to take on Florida Memorial University this Wednesday in their first mid-week matchup of the season. The Gyrenes are come into the game riding a three game win streak following a weekend sweep of Clearwater Christian College.

THE GYRENES

Ave Maria enters the week carrying with them a 3-3 overall record on the young season. The offense has been clicking early, averaging just over nine hits and nearly seven runs per game. Freshman catcher Rico Soto (Naples, Fla.) has been leading the way with a .500 batting average, while senior Nick Sacchetta (Naples, Fla.) has been supplying power with three home runs thus far.

The team's pitching staff has been finding its stride as of late, coming off of their first shutout of the year on Saturday tossed by seniors Zack Quayle (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Ray Messner (Naples, Fla).

The Gyrenes look to continue their success against the Lions, after going 4-1 against their conference counterparts in 2014.

SCOUTING FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY

Florida Memorial makes the trip across the state to Ave Maria from Miami for the first time this season, carrying with them a roster that is full of returners. They will rely on the experience of thirty one upperclassmen paired with eight freshman to take on the rest of The Sun Conference. The Lions are looking to improve upon a 2014 campaign that finished with a 9-41 overall record and a 3-24 Sun Conference record.
