Gyrenes Open Conference Play Vs. NorthwoodÂ
AVE MARIA, FLA. – This weekend the Gyrenes will begin their 2015 Sun Conference schedule this weekend as they travel to West Palm Beach to take on Northwood University. The three game series is slated to begin Friday afternoon with a single game beginning at 2:30 p.m. and will continue on Saturday with a double header at 11 a.m.

The GyrenesAve Maria comes into the series on the heels of a four game winning streak after taking down Florida Memorial University on Wednesday and sweeping Clearwater Christian this past weekend. The team now have an overall record the sits at 4-3 and is above .500 for the first time in year.
A balance of hitting and pitching has carried the Gyrenes thus far in 2015. With a team batting average of .315 and a total ten home runs on the young season, the blue and green hitters have shown they can hit for both power and consistency. The pitchers have been putting up some impressive numbers as of late and have now tallied sixty-seven strikeouts and only twenty-three walks in 55.1 innings of work.
In three meetings during the 2014 season, Ave Maria was able to take two from Northwood in the final series of the season. The Gyrenes look to continue their success against an improved Seahawks squad in 2015.
Scouting Northwood UniversityThe Seahawks enter the weekend riding a winning streak of their own. After dropping the first three games of the season, Northwood has been able to pick up wins in their last three contests.
Northwood's 2015 roster features lots of new additions after their sister school in Texas ended their baseball program and many players transferred down to West Palm Beach.
Pitching has been a strength so far this season for Northwood as they carry with them a 2.74 team ERA and a 1.80 opposing team batting average.
In 2014, the Seahawks finished with a 25-24-1 overall record and an 11-16 record in conference play.
