Lady Gyrenes Dismantle Embry-Riddle 87-65

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team defeated Embry-Riddle 87-65 on Wednesday evening. The Gyrenes are 13-11 on the season, 5-6 in the Sun Conference. The Blue and Green will returnto the court Saturday, February 7th at Tom Golisano field house when they will play St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens at 2 p.m.

Four members of the team scored in double figures; led my Taylor Lindsey's 28 points. Lindsey also contributed three assists, two blocks and four steals. Annie Artise continues to shoot the ball well as she shot 8-15 from the field, to finish with 20 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Madison McDonald put the basketball in the right hands as she dished out nine assists to go along with 12 points and three steals.

AMU got out to an early 7-0 lead early to set the tone. The home team led for much of the first half before the Eagles started climbing back into the game and with 7:35 left to go, Embry-Riddle had taken the lead with a jumper in the paint. With AMU trailing by two with 0:07 seconds left in the half; Artise made a 3 point basket assists by McDonald to go into the locker room with a 1 point lead. Embry-Riddle took control of the boards with a 25-12 first half advantage. AMU's defense forced 13 first half turnovers, and had seven steals. Both teams shot relatively well with AMU taking the slight edge (41.9%) over the Eagles (41.7%)

AMU went on a 9-3 run to start the second half strong and to build on their lead. With 12 minutes left in the game, AMU had built a 13 point lead with three's from Lindsey and McDonald in back to back offensive possessions. Free throws down the stretch in the final moments of the second half iced the win as they shot 92% from the line in the second half. Although outrebounded in the first half by 13; AMU cut that deficit to just four (33-29).

Leading the way for Embry-Riddle was Sabrina Whiting and Taylor Cyphers with 14 points apiece.
