TITUSVILLE, Fla. --- A pair of strong pitching performances and timely hitting helped AMU to defeat Waldorf College (Iowa) 3-1 and NCAA II Bloomfield College 9-1 on Wednesday at the Cocoa Expo Spring Games.
Emily Lemin picked up her fifth win of the season in dominant fashion against Waldorf in game one on Wednesday. The lefthander allowed just two hits over seven innings of work while striking out 11.
Kingsley Avery led the Blue and Green at the plate with a pair of hits including a double and a RBI.
The AMU offense came alive in the first inning versus Bloomfield and the Lady Gyrenes tacked on six runs and never looked back. A pair of two RBI hits by
McKayla Jeter and
Kingsley Avery gave AMU all the run support they would need. Avery would finish the game a perfect 3-for-3 including a double, two RBI, and a run scored.
Cheyenne Benson picked up the win after tossing four innings where she gave up just two hits and struck out six.
Caitlin Constance threw the final two innings in relief for AMU.
The Ave Maria softball team will conclude their spring break trip tomorrow when they take on Penn State Hazleton in doubleheader action at Chain of Lakes Park. The twinbill is set to begin at 9a.m.
