Baseball Set To Host SoutheasternAve Maria, Fla.—This weekend the Ave Maria Gyrenes baseball team will play host to the Southeastern Fire in their latest Sun Conference series. The three game set will begin Friday afternoon at Bowie's Ballpark at 2 p.m. and will continue on Saturday afternoon with a double header starting at 11 a.m.
The GyrenesAve Maria enters the weekend with a 15-19 overall record and a 3-8 record in The Sun Conference. Two of the Gyrenes most recent Sun Conference victories came last weekend when they visited Florida Memorial and took two of three from the Lions.
After a long stretch of baseball that included seventeen games in thirteen days, the blue and green have returned to a normal schedule, playing a single midweek game against Eckerd College this past Wednesday evening before this weekend's series. AMU was done in by the Tritons 5-0 in St. Petersburg but they look to return to their winning ways at home, where they are 12-11 on the season.
In 2014, the Gyrenes battled with Southeastern in Lakeland, going 0-3 with the margin of loss being just one in all three contests.
SCOUTING SOUTHEASTERNThe Fire enter this weekend with an overall record of 21-11 and a 9-5 record in The Sun Conference. In their most recent TSC (The Sun Conference) action, Southeastern took two of three games against Webber International in Lakeland last weekend.
On the offensive side, Southeastern enters the weekend with a .270 team batting average. The Fire also sit atop the conference with 83 stolen bases in 100 attempts.
The Fire pitching staff finds themselves in the middle of the pack in the conference in several statistical categories, including earned run average with 4.72 team ERA. They currently rank third in the conference in strikeouts with 228 on the season just behind Ave Maria (234) and Northwood University (283).
