Gyrenes Topped By Southeastern on FridayAve Maria, Fla.—On Friday afternoon the Ave Maria Gyrenes baseball team suffered a 5-3 loss at the hands of Southeastern University. With the loss, AMU now falls to 15-20 on the season and 3-8 in The Sun Conference.
GAME RECAPStarting pitching highlighted the game early, as Austin Comesanas (Miami, Fla.) took the mound for the Gyrenes. Through the first six frames, Comesanas allowed just two runs to keep his team within striking distance. After seven innings of work Comesanas finished with five strikeouts and five earned runs.
Patrick Kinney (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned his seventh win of the season for the Fire, going 7.1 innings and allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts.
The top offensive performers for Southeastern were Luis Diaz (Miami, Fla.) and Willi Martin (Tampa, Fla.), who each had two RBIs on the afternoon.
Trailing 5-1 in the eighth inning, Ave Maria would threaten with a late rally. Ryan Keegan (Estero, Fla.) delivered a two RBI single to left field, bringing the score to 5-3. The Gyrenes would leave the bases loaded in the inning as the Fire were able to end the threat.
The final score of Friday afternoon's series opener would remain 5-3.
