AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Lady Gyrenes were swept by Southeastern in Saturday's doubleheader. The Blue and Green dropped a pitcher's duel in game one, 1-0, before a comeback attempt came up short in game two, 6-4.

AMU falls to 17-17 overall and to 2-2 in Sun Conference action while the Fire move to 26-9 overall and 2-0 in TSC play.

Southeastern pitcher Susan Hinks drove in the only run of game one, an RBI single, in the top of the fifth inning. AMU had some opportunities late but weren't able to come up with a timely hit.

Cheyenne Benson (6-10) had a solid outing for the Lady Gyrenes despite the loss. She allowed four hits and walked five while allowing one run over seven innings. She struck out one batter.

Hinks pitched seven scoreless innings while allowing five hits and walking four in the win. She struck out four as she improved to 12-5 overall.

In game two, Southeastern jumped out to a 5-0 lead with five runs in the top of the second inning.

The Lady Gyrenes got two runs back in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Kingsley Avery to plate Brandi Griswold and a RBI groundout by Benson to bring in Avery.

After the Lady Fire added a run in the top of the fourth to make the score 6-2, the Gyrenes kept the game within reach with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. The first run came on a RBI single by Sarah Vinci to bring in Victoria Thompson. In the ensuing at-bat, Benson drove in Griswold on a single to right field to bring the score to 6-4.

Emily Lemin (6-6) took the loss in game two after allowing six runs, two earned, over seven innings. She allowed eight hits and walked three while striking out four.

Avery went 4-for-8 on the afternoon with a runs scored and a RBI. Marlie Braddy was 3-for-8 on the day.
The Lady Gyrenes return to action on Thursday when they welcome Warner to AMU Softball Field for a conference doubleheader.
