Baseball Sweeps Marygrove

Gyrenes Sweep Marygrove in DH

Ave Maria, FLA.— The Ave Maria baseball team was able to pick up to victories on Tuesday afternoon against visiting Marygrove University. The Gyrenes are now 8-12 on the season as they continue their long stretch of games in early March.

GAME 1 RECAP

Game one was a tight contest between the Gyrenes and the Mustangs.

Both starting pitchers gave their team an opportunity to win from the mound. Marygrove starter Jacob Baker (Berkley, Mich.) went six innings for the Mustangs, allowing four runs, only two of which were earned.
Andrew Steele (Northport, Fla.) had an impressive outing for Ave Maria as he went the distance for his first win of the season. The righty went seven innings, struck out ten batter and allowed only two hits and one unearned run.

Seniors Nick Sacchetta (Naples, Fla.) and Aaron Pigna (Miami, Fla.) provided the offense for the Gyrenes. Sacchetta had a big RBI double and Aaron Pigna crushed his first home run of the year, a solo shot. Christian Sanchez (Miami, Fla.) also added a late RBI, making the final score 4-1 in favor of Ave Maria.

GAME 2 RECAP

Game two required a come from behind effort from the Gyrene offense to give the blue and green the win.

The top offense preformers for AMU were Sean Trymbiski (Doylestown, Pa.) who had six RBI in the game, Aaron Pigna (Miami, Fla.) had two RBI and Andy Hernandez added one RBI of his own.

Justin Bureau (Orange, Calif.) came on in relief for the Gyrenes and earned his first win of the season. Bureau held the Mustangs to just three hits in three innings while striking out four on the way at a 9-5 AMU victory.

UP NEXT: On Wednesday the Gyrenes will continue their home stand as Betel College comes to Ave Maria for a single game beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Bowie's Ballpark.
