Gyrenes Loose Late In Series OpenerGAME RECAPAve Maria, FLA. – Friday afternoon the Ave Maria baseball team was outdone in extra innings by Spring Arbor. The ten inning affair ended with the Gyrenes on the low end of a 7-6 final score.
The Gyrenes were able to take an early 3-0 lead, behind starter Ray Messner (Naples, Fla), who went 6.2 innings, allowing four runs and striking out eight.
Nick Sacchetta (Naples, Fla.) and Ryan Keegan (Estero, Fla.) each had RBI singles to start the scoring for Ave Maria in the fourth inning.
The Cougars rallied back in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring six unanswered runs. Connor Lengerich (Monroe, Ind.) two RBI during the Spring Arbor offensive outburst.
AMU answered in the seventh with a rally of their own to tie the game at six a piece. Tucker Starkey (Mayville, Ky.) and Aaron Pigna (Miami, Fla.) each tacked on an RBI for the Gyrenes.
The winning run came in the top of the tenth inning off the bat of James Hall (Canton, Mich.) who sent an RBI single into left field. The final score would stand at 7-6 after ten innings.
