AVE MARIA, Fla. ---Â The Ave Maria softball team fell in a pair of games against the visiting St. Thomas University Lady Bobcats this weekend. After a rain delay pushed the final half inning of game one to Sunday morning, STU was able to close out the game for an 8-1 win. In game two, the Lady Gyrenes fell 5-3 after a Lady Bobcat rally in the top of the seventh. Prior to the game today, the Lady Gyrenes honored their four seniors.
Game 1 Recap- Both teams picked up a run in the first inning. After St. Thomas took a 1-0 lead, Cheyenne Benson reached on a dropped fly ball by the STU center fielder which allowed Kingsley Avery to score.
- The Lady Bobcats added three runs in the fourth with two coming on a two-run home run by Jessica Matias.
- St. Thomas added two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to make the final score 8-1.
- Avery finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
- Benson took the loss in game one after allowing five runs, four earned, over five innings.
Game 2 Recap- In game two, both teams again got on the board in the first inning. Trailing 1-0, Alyssa Colding singled to left field to plate Avery to tie the game.
- In the third inning, Benson doubled to left field to bring in Avery. In the ensuing at-bat, Colding picked up her second RBI of the game, driving in Victoria Thompson on a error by the Bobcat catcher.
- With Ave leading 3-1, St. Thomas scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-3 lead on the Lady Gyrenes.
- Emily Lemin took the loss in game two, pitching all seven innings and allowing five unearned runs. She allowed six hits and walked two while striking out two.

Up Next- The Blue and Green hit the road next weekend for a pair of tough conference contests. The Lady Gyrenes first take on USC-Beaufort, who sits in second place in the conference standings, on Friday before concluding their regular season at Thomas, who sits in third place in the conference standings, on Saturday.
