Softball Splits At #18 USCB

AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria softball team took game one at the University of South Carolina-Beaufort 4-1 before falling in game two by a score of 2-1. The Lady Gyrenes remain in sixth place in the conference with one TSC doubleheader, at No. 21 Thomas on Saturday, remaining.

Game 1 Recap
  • After a couple scoreless innings to begin the game, the Gyrenes were able to break through in the third inning with three runs on a three-run home run by Cheyenne Benson.
  • USCB got a run back in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Benson picked up her fourth RBI of the game in the top of the seventh on a RBI double to right center to plate Victoria Thompson.
  • Benson got the win in the circle to improve to 10-12 on the season. She allowed one run on two hits and one walk. She struck out four on the afternoon. At the plate in game one, Benson went 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, and four RBI.
 
Game 2 Recap
  • Game two was a pitcher's duel with neither side able to break through in the first four innings. USCB got on the board first when the Sand Sharks got two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
  • The Lady Gyrenes cut the deficit in half in the top of the sixth on an Alyssa Colding RBI single to right field to bring in Thompson.
  • Thompson went 2-for-3 in game two with a run scored.
  • Emily Lemin took the loss in game two to drop to 8-10 on the year. She pitched six innings and allowed two runs on eight hits. She struck out two.
 
Up Next
  • The Blue and Green conclude the regular season on Saturday when they take on 21st-ranked Thomas University (Ga.). The doubleheader will begin at 11 a.m.
