Softball Concluded Regular Season At #21 Thomas

THOMASVILLE, Ga. --- The Ave Maria softball team concluded its regular season on Sunday at 21st-ranked Thomas. The Blue and Green fell in game one 6-3 and were defeated in game two 8-4 by the Night Hawks. The Lady Gyrenes end the regular season with a 23-25 overall record and a 7-9 record in Sun Conference play.

Game 1 Recap
  • Thomas got on the board first in game one, plating a run in the bottom of the third on a Lady Gyrene error.
  • The Blue and Green tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth on a Deanna Stirtzinger RBI single to left to bring in Alyssa Colding.
  • After four Thomas runs in the bottom of the fifth put the Lady Gyrenes in a 5-1 hole, AMU was able to get two runs back in the top of the sixth. The first came on a bases-loaded walk by Cheyenne Benson to bring in Nikki Woodard. In the ensuing at-bat, Colding grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Kingsley Avery.
  • Thomas added a run in the bottom of the sixth to make the final 6-3.
 
Game 2 Recap
  • After three scoreless innings to begin game two, Thomas struck first with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
  • The Lady Gyrenes got one run back in the top of the fifth on an Emily Blackmore home run, her first of the season.
  • Thomas scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth to take a 8-1 lead.
  • The Blue and Green got three runs in the top of the seventh on a Hali Delashmet three-run home run to make the final 8-4 in favor of the Night Hawks.
 
Up Next
  • The Blue and Green will begin the 2015 Sun Conference Tournament as the six-seed when play begins on Thursday. In a rematch of this afternoon's games, the Lady Gyrenes will take on third-seed Thomas in their opening round game.
