Opa Locka, Fla.—On Wednesday afternoon the Ave Maria Gyrenes baseball team traveled to Opa Locka to take on the Lions of Florida Memorial University for the fifth and final time this season. The Gyrenes were able to pick up a 7-3 victory against their fellow Sun Conference opponent. With the win AMU is now 19-27 as they head into the home stretch of the 2015 regular season.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS - Gianfranco Garlobo opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, putting Florida Memorial on the board with an RBI single.
- Joseph Libio tacked on another run in the fourth, pushing the Lion's lead to 2-0.
- In the top of the fifth, Nick Sacchetta broke the AMU scoreless drought with a long solo home run, his sixth of the season, making the score 2-1.
- In the sixth inning, AMU took the lead after putting two runs on the board. The first came from a mishandled bunt off the bat off of Kellen Creech which allowed Aaron Pigna to score and the second came from an RBI single by Ryan Keegan putting the Gyrenes ahead 3-2.
- Pigna pushed the Gyrene lead to 4-2 in the seventh with an RBI single.
- Casey Johnston added another run for FMU in the bottom of the seventh with a sac fly to right field making the score 4-3.
- AMU put the game out of reach with three more runs in the top of the ninth. Bobby Oliver had an RBI single and Any Hernandez tacked on two more runs with a two RBI single of his own. The score would remain at 7-3 as the final.

UP NEXT: The Gyrenes will be at home for the final time in the 2015 season this weekend as they host St. Thomas University. Game one of the three game set will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon from Bowie's Ballpark. The series will continue with the final home date of the season on Saturday with a double header scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Gyrenes and all graduating student-athletes who are a part of the baseball program will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
