AVE MARIA, Fla. --- The Ave Maria volleyball team defeated Florida National in straight sets on Thursday night. The Blue and Green improved to 3-0 against FNU this season and will go for the season sweep on Friday night in Hialeah, Fla., at 7 p.m. AMU stands at 8-2 overall after the win.
 
Game Recap
 

• The Lady Gyrenes used an eight-point run in the middle of the opening set to break open a 7-7 game and take a 15-7 advantage. The Blue and Green won the final six points of the game to take the set 25-11.
• AMU jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the second set, forcing Florida National into an early timeout. The Lady Gyrenes built on that lead with a 5-0 run in the middle of the set to take an 11 point edge, 16-5. The Blue and Green went on to win the set, 25-11, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
• It was a close game in the third set before AMU won seven of eight points to take a 17-11 lead at the midway point. The Lady Gyrenes eventually went on to take the set, 25-17, and the match.

• The Lady Gyrenes had 42 kills on the night with 11 errors for a hitting percentage of .373.
• AMU had 46 digs compared to 25 by Florida National.
• Lexy Smith had eight kills to lead the Blue and Green followed by Marie Mendez with seven and Lexie Andric with six.
• Veronika Garcia had 19 assists for AMU while Monique Rivers tallied 11 digs for the Lady Gyrenes.
