MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. --- The Ave Maria women's basketball team fell at St. Thomas, 62-48, on Tuesday night. The Blue and Green shot 36 percent from the field as they fall to 8-10 on the season and to 2-7 in Sun Conference action.

St. Thomas finished the game making 45 percent of their shots from the floor and improve to 8-7 on the season. Neither team shot particularly well from three with Ave Maria making 4-of-19 from three while the Bobcats were 2-of-17 from behind the arc.

Katie Houbolt led the Lady Gyrenes with 11 points in 16 minutes of play. Lauren Gillingham and Cassidy Lalumiere each finished with nine points. Gillingham added five rebounds.

Jamesha Willis led three Bobcats in double-figures with 22 points, 11 steals, and seven rebounds. St. Thomas held a 38-20 advantage in points in the paint.

The Blue and Green struggled out of the gate, falling behind 13-6 after one quarter of play. AMU went into halftime trailing 28-17. The Lady Gyrenes shot 26 percent in the first half and were 1-of-14 from three.

Ave Maria shot the ball better in the second half, 48 percent from the floor and were 3-of-5 from three, but were unable to cut into the St. Thomas lead. The Bobcats outscored AMU 34-31 in the second half en route to their 62-48 victory.

The Lady Gyrenes will take on Webber International at Tom Golisano Field House on Thursday at 6 p.m.
