JWU Too Much For Men’s Basketball

MIAMI, Fla. --- Johnson & Wales led 37-27 at the half and outscored the Gyrenes 45-30 in the second half to take down the Ave Maria men's basketball team 82-57 on Saturday afternoon.
 
Martez Harris led the Gyrenes with 19 points. Brandon Dean and Julian Adams each had nine points and five rebounds. Exor Torres added eight points and James Stoll scored seven for the Gyrenes.
 
AMU shot 32 percent from the field for the game. Ten of the Gyrenes' 17 field goals made came from behind the arc. The Blue and Green were 13-of-14 from the free throw line. Johnson & Wales shot 46 percent for the game and were 14-of-31 from three.
 
Frank Bennett led the Wildcats with 29 points.
 
Johnson & Wales took the early lead but a three by Martez Harris tied the game at 13-13 at the 11:24 mark in the opening half. The team exchanged baskets over the next couple minutes before the Wildcats went on an 18-8 run to take a 37-25 lead with a minute to play in the half. The Gyrenes trailed 37-27 at the break.
 
The Wildcats were able to extend their lead in the second half, leading by as many as 31, 78-47, at the 5:20 mark of the half. Johnson & Wales went on to win 82-57.
 
AMU returns to action next week with a pair of home conference games beginning with Southeastern on Wednesday night.
