LAKE WALES, Fla. --- The Ave Maria Women's Soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory at Warner on Saturday night, moving one step closer to securing their first ever appearance in the conference tournament.
Francesca Singelton came up big in net, stopping all seven shots she faced in her second clean sheet of the season.
Laura Mastandrea scored the only goal of the game for the Lady Gyrenes, scoring a header off a corner kick. Gianna Vega picked up the assist on the goal.
The Blue and Green defense came up big as AMU was outshot 14-4 and 7-3 on frame. The Lady Gyrenes also had to fend off seven corner kicks.
Meghan Precord led AMU with three shots and two shots on goal. Mastandrea had the only other shot for the Lady Gyrenes.
The top seven in the conference standing after the regular season will advance to the conference tournament. AMU moves past Johnson & Wales and in to seventh place by two points with the win tonight.
Ave Maria concludes the regular season on Monday against Southeastern at 12 p.m. A win on Monday would lock up the tournament spot for AMU and could move AMU into sixth place.
