DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- The Ave Maria Men's Basketball team fell at NCAA DII Embry-Riddle on Friday night, 106-58. The Gyrenes are now 1-2 on the season as they get ready to open conference play on Thursday at Southeastern.
The Gyrenes struggled shooting on the night, making 27.5 percent of their shots for the night. AMU was 3-of-21 from three on the night. Embry-Riddle shot 51.9 percent from the field and made 15 three-pointers. ERAU outrebounded AMU 56-39.
Derrick Nicholas led the Blue and Green with 17 points and eight rebounds. Deonte' Dixon added 13 points while Romello Bates finished with 12 points.
Ave Maria hung with Embry-Riddle in the opening minutes and trailed by one, 11-10, with 12:44 to play in the first half. The Eagles then caught fire and went on a 19-2 run followed by a 22-4 run to end the half with a 53-19 advantage.
Embry-Riddle didn't cool off in the second half, making 10 of their 15 threes in the second period of play. The Eagles outscored AMU 53-39 in the second half to end the night with a 106-58 win.
Shaquan McArthur led all scorers with 25 points. McArthur was 11-of-16 from the floor and 3-for-3 from three. Five other Eagles finished in double-figures.
